Before I go into the review I’m going to have to give this 2 ratings to be honest, one based on price (which I kind of hate to do) and another based on taste, but that will be at the end.

The Camacho Pre-Embargo:

This is the first unfinished foot and pigtailed cap cigar that I have had to date.I was beyond nervous as I made the initial cut on the cap but it was quick and clean. I sort of toasted the unfinished foot and while lighting it I got an awesome taste of what I can only describe as crab boil or a good seafood/Creole spice.

I felt the first third of this stick burned kind of fast, but I expected it since the filler is 45 years old. I got cedar and nutty flavors with a mild metallic finish. I also felt in this part the cigar didn’t produce as much smoke as I felt it could, but man it was very pleasant aroma from when the smoke hung around before the wind whipped it away.

It was around the time of this pic that the spice from the wrapper really kicked in, I don’t mean a pepper spice either, this was more of what I expected Caribbean spice kind of flavors like I was enjoying a meal in Cuba call me strange but that’s how I perceived it.

Ash fell shortly after the first pic, which was a lot further than I expected, not related but I chose at that time to grab my mp3 player. The smoke was amazingly spicy through the nose at this point, almost burning but still just VERY enjoyable.

I must say I would somewhat consider this a “one-trick pony” cigar, but man this is one of the best that I have had in my time since I started reviewing.

Should have said this earlier, but by now the smoke output is amazing, still keeping the same spicy metallic flavors and super enjoyable.

Into the final bit, the stick has remained very cool and so has the smoke despite having read elsewhere that the stick or the smoke itself gets hot by this point. Sadly had to stand to avoid getting rained on but still the stick is super enjoyable at this point.

Couldn’t do my usual cigar stand as the ash wasn’t strong enough to hold up what was left of the stick. I still had several puffs before I finally laid it to rest. Again, the review is based on flavor and not cost, but the rating itself will be a 2-part rating – one based on price (and yes you can find deals on them for much cheaper than single retail).

Rating based on price: (3/5)

Rating based on overall flavor: (4.5/5)

Hope you enjoyed reading this as much as I enjoyed smoking this stick of badassery from Camacho.

Cheers,

Spencer I.
