Stan Bogdanov

My name is Stan Bogdanov and I work as an Instructional Multimedia Specialist in a New York. I’m interested in pretty much anything under the sun and have started various projects – from artistic ones to completely “boring” and geeky ones. I love to fiddle with things and enjoy working with my hands. I love sports and try to do anything that I can – from rock climbing to Jiu Jitsu. You can find a bit more about me on the creative side here – www.PointOh.org Ok enough is enough – now let’s talk cigars.

I recently got into cigars. I grew up in a tobacco company and the smell of fresh tobacco leaves has always been something I love. I am from the few people that have purposely tried to start smoking because I love the smell and idea of tobacco in my mouth. However, cigarettes could not offer me anything and tasted simply like burnt dried excrement. Yeah, I am perfectly explicit and that’s how this personal blog will be as well. I don’t have the patience and desire to tip toe around the edges if a cigar doesn’t simply taste good to me. The reviews and write-ups that companies give about cigars mean nothing to me – “rich milk chocolate with crumbled nuts in it” – yeah, if I taste it maybe, but highly unlikely. I will attempt to be as objective as I can and if a cigar tastes like ash to me I have no problem saying it.  At this point brand names mean nothing to me – if a cigar is good it’s good. I will continuously be updating this write-up so come back for more personal information.

As for my preferences, here are some basics that will help you:

At this point I prefer medium to medium/full cigars – I am yet developing a preference for wrappers, but seem to be enjoying a lot maduro, cameroon, and sumatra (in that order). My palate is not developed yet, but so was Rocky Patel’s when he started ;) .

I love an easy draw with lots of smoke. Rocky Patel is exemplary for me when it comes to consistency in draw and burn.

I like cigars with a sweet after-taste – something that offers me an actual flavor like nut, chocolate, coffee (you’ll be surprised how rarely you will actually taste these flavors – you might think you do, but you don’t ;) )

I like shorter cigars with a big ring. I am a slow smoker and a longer cigar can take me forever to smoke. And at this point in my life I do not have the time to devote two hours of my day just for smoking. Giving 30 sec rests between puffs however always keeps my cigars at low heat and never tasting bitter.

As of now I seem to have grown a big fan of Rocky Patel – some favorites of mine being the Vintage 1990, MM, Fusion, and Summer ’08.

Cheers and I am looking forward to discussing my reviews with you ;) !
